Public holidays and the busy season for Irish removal firms

The dates a removal diary in Ireland is planned around: the ten public holidays, and the periods when demand gathers.

Ireland's public holidays

Ireland has ten public holidays a year. Most fall on a Monday, which makes a long weekend — a popular time to move. The dates below are the ones published by the Government; each was checked against the rule that sets it.

  • New Year's Day — 1 January
  • St Brigid's Day — the first Monday in February, or 1 February if that is a Friday (2 February 2026, 1 February 2027, 7 February 2028)
  • St Patrick's Day — 17 March
  • Easter Monday (6 April 2026, 29 March 2027, 17 April 2028)
  • May public holiday — the first Monday in May (4 May 2026, 3 May 2027, 1 May 2028)
  • June public holiday — the first Monday in June (1 June 2026, 7 June 2027, 5 June 2028)
  • August public holiday — the first Monday in August (3 August 2026, 2 August 2027, 7 August 2028)
  • October public holiday — the last Monday in October (26 October 2026, 25 October 2027, 30 October 2028)
  • Christmas Day — 25 December
  • St Stephen's Day — 26 December

When demand gathers

In Ireland, as in Britain, removals demand gathers in three places on the calendar: the summer months, the last days of each month and the public holiday weekends. Those are the dates to fill first and to plan crews and vans around.

How Cerrax handles it

Cerrax carries Ireland's public holidays for 2026 to 2028. A firm can switch on its busy-season calendar, which starts from June to August, the last days of each month and public holidays, and change any of them — the months, the month-end window, the holidays, or dates of its own. It is off until the firm turns it on.
